About Jyoti Mishra Saklani, the girl behind A Date With Google

Here is a brief of my career-

Back in 2004, I came to Delhi to pursue a career in Call Centre. Call Centres were a little fascinating for people who just passoed out of college and wanted to earn and stay independent.

2004 - 2005 I got a job in an International call centre called Alserve, that changed to Vanguard Inforsystems and then closed down. I worked there for an year in a sales process. I dreamed of making sales and being on top of that white board our team leaders maintained and screamed standing by its side. My first lesson of being in such environment, free food and free cab. It looked like a bliss but I realized that time demanded a move. I wanted to learn more and Vanguard was limited to only Sales.

2005-2006 -  HCL BPO. I started working for a process called BT - British Telecom. I learned Customer Services Skills and it was the company where I began working in night shifts. One day I fell asleep on my desk, nobody saw (I always believe and hope so!), but my patient customer was on the phone. I don't for how long though. I woke-up and apologized to her. she laughed and said "Love, take rest, I'll call you later!". I didn't let her go, and helped her get her telephone working. That was the last day when I ever fell asleep at my desk. One year passed and I got a nice offer from IBM.

2006-2007 IBM NTL. Nearly 8 months to and fro from South Delhi to Gurgaon, but working in a technical environment was life changing my career's turning point. But I was still working in a call centre. But I did not know what to and where to go from there. And one day, I got a call from HCL Comnet for iterview, i went there and I was selected. My life's first time in 1 hour long interview for something that I had just prepared a day before with the help of my friend.

2007- 2009 RSystems. Somehow HCL Comnet didn't work out even after being selected. But thankfully I got another opportunity in Rsystems as Software Support Engineer. My actual breakthrough in IT Industry, as a technical person, was RSystems. I learned Exchange, AD and a bit of Lotus Notes. Pursued MCSE and got the certification, and we were laid off!! Had to find a new company...

2009 - Present HCL technologies. joined as a Command Center Rep, and moved to Strongmail in 3 months. I did not know what it was but I worked with full dedication because it was assigned by my manager with a confidence that I would be able to handle it. Since then I have been a part of Strongmail as a SPOC, Administrator and Email Marketing Associate for the technical part. I now know major attributes of Email Marketing and see myself never stopping anywhere but keep growing... probably learning more.

Why I decided to start a blog?

I have been blogging since 2008 with the name Shoppingaholic Jiya for Shopping, Style and Us (There is  a twist in this too, but i won't go there!). This blog is all about shopping and style See yourself!

One day i was sitting at work and analyzing the resolution of an issue and thought that Gosh! I am doing such hard work but I won't be able to look back and see what all i did once I left this job. That is exactly when I decided to start a blog!

My only motive behind this blog is to document things that I learned on my way in career. I am not going to focus on content a lot because at times I will just post a question, seeking for an answer from you all who would visit. I will also keep searching for the answer on Google (hence name A Date With Google) and update the post with my solution that I found and helped me find the solution!

My Achievements:

  1. The biggest achievement is that I am from Arts background if you only consider my graduation degree, but I managed to enter the IT sector.
  2. I am a Red Hat Certified Engineer (and an MCSE).
  3. In my 5 years of span in HCL Technologies, I have received 9 R&Rs.
  4. I used to run this weekly maintenance on our servers that ran for longer than 24 hours and needed a check every 15 to 30 minutes. I ran this maintenance for longer than 2 and a half years. it shows my hard work and dedication.
  5. I have worked 4 days  at a stretch with four hours of sleep.
  6. My relation with my managers has always been good, considering I don't lick my boss's boots.
  7. I have received a number of appreciations from client. There was a one of my clients, who hardly appreciates anybody and is very strict, sent me an appreciation. That was the most exciting and happiest day of my life! Thank you Mr Awe.

My Future Plans

For now, I want to become an expert of Email Marketing who can drive the campaigns smoothly, get perfect deliveries of all campaigns and always be on top of the work. Of course to keep getting better is ultimate plan!!

Will come back to this page soon.
